The artist, James Gulliver Hancock, sums up his vision in creating City Life, the 500 piece jigsaw puzzle from Werkshoppe: "For this puzzle design I wanted to capture the Tetris-like landscape of a big urban city like New York. I’ve taken a lot of the drawings I’ve done of buildings in New York over the years and combined them to give a sense of the city. You’ll notice that the super famous buildings aren’t really that prominent. Instead, I like to bring to the forefront the buildings of the every day, the ones people actually live in and buy groceries at. I love how New York is a fully functioning place that people from all walks of life use constantly day and night and where some of these less flashy buildings are such a big part of that life."

James Gulliver Hancock is a well-travelled illustrator known for his playful illustration style. His obsession with drawing everything in the world has seen him work for major projects around the globe, his work appearing on everything from train carriages to books, furniture, clothing, ceramics, boardgames, billboards and animations. He grew up in Sydney, Australia, and studied Visual Communications at the University of Technology. Major projects in his diverse career include creating a large-scale mosaic in a train station for the MTA in New York and an interactive children’s exhibition based on books James created with Lonely Planet.
